This had to happen sooner or later. The AOL search data release scam after which specific users were identified has resulted in a class action suit against AOL. This is despite AOL made the CTO and a few others face the guillotine.

The class action suit seeks damages of $1000 per user affected and $4000 in California.

Not only this, the plaintiff is also seeing AOL to stop others from storing the data. But how AOL is going to do it is another story altogether. Anyway, let’s see what course the case takes. In my opinion though, AOL can’t escape a major fine.
