apple-logo1_48Apparently, Apple has realized that there is a hell lot of difference between the music market and the movie market. While people love to own music to listen to the tracks again and again, they are quite reluctant to own movies for future watching. But now, Apple is being reported to be holding talks with major Hollywood studios to offer online movie rentals. Apple’s online film rental service could arrive this fall.

Apple already offers online movies to be purchased and downloaded but they hadn’t any rental scheme. Matthew Garrahan of Financial Times briefed in his report:

A film would cost $2.99 for a 30-day rental. Its digital rights-management software would allow films to be moved from a computer to at least one other device such as the video iPod or iPhone. The software would prevent movies being copied.

The new will most probably be distributed via the iTunes Music Store. The new service would noticeably compete against cable and satellite TV companies, and other online services such as Netflix, MovieLink, Xbox Live that offer movie rentals.
