Richard MacManus in his post cites the MSNBC story on the fact how Asian countries are years ahead of Western nations when it comes to mobile Web. For example, Japan mobile industry is 1.5 years ahead of the US. He finally ends his post asking when the Western countries will wake up to the mobile revolution.
The point here is that in the thickly populated Asian countries, the market presents more opportunities to the mobile industry and hence, the services are advanced, the phone sets are of the highest order in incorporating the latest tech available today.
One very interesting comment in the post says that the Japanese are not as enthusiastic about their computers or computer skills as they are with their cellular phone surfing aptitudes. Yes, it is indeed the case. For example, South Korea has one of the world’s highest broadband penetrations. Even there, the emphasis is on mobile Web. The work that is going on in WiBro is a fine example.
The Western nations are catching up, and it will no doubt catch up in the coming few years. However, what is lacking now is the market drive that is so conspicuous in Asian countries. The Asian youth is the main reason to push this phenomenon what we are seeing now.
