Steve Rubel recently mentioned in one of his posts that Blogging has reached its peak.
Using statistics from different sources such as Tecnocrati, Steve also takes into account the no. of searches for the word ‘blog’ on Google. Searches seem to be flattening while news citations are climbing. Steve with these statistics, thus concludes that ‘every individual who wants to publish a blog actively may already have one’
I completely disagree with the idea.
There is so much which hasn’t been taken into account.
A more factual statistic is this - only 8% of American Internet users have their own blog.
Language for one, is the key to a more robust and expansive blogosphere. There is so much that can change when more and more people blog in their own native language. Freedom to be heard is the underlying concept here. There are numerous examples of blogging gaining popularity in different forms - Corporate blogging is on the rise and although it may be a simple concept to us all, it still requires persuasion and convincing for companies.
Taking language constraints and lack of conviction for some, we could say that blogging has slowed down, but its only a matter of time before these constraints are removed and all of realize the emergence of WEB2.0 as a phenomenon.
There’s a long way to go yet.
