The YouTube like video-sharing site Break.com has announced that they will pay handsomely for user-generated videos. They said that they would pay $400 for normal user-generated clips and up to $2,000 for animated shorts.
However, what will qualify the users to get the money is still very unclear though one of the requirements is that it must get to the site’s homepage. I was a bit surprised to read Pete Cashmore’s post in Mashable that they have claimed to have already paid out $300,000 already.
Break.com’s CEO Keith Richman made a very interesting observation talking to Reuters that it has not seen much correlation between the higher pay and the quality of the videos it receives.
As Pete Cashmore writes, there can be a huge flurry of scams like gaming as it happens in Digg or YouTube to get a video on the homepage because serious money is there to be earned unlike in YouTube or Digg. I guess this is just a temporary ploy to get the site up in popularity rankings. Once it becomes a big enough for the company, they might call the reward factor off.
