Creative Commons, a non profit organization which provides people from various fields like scientists, authors, artists with apparatus to give them freedom in their respective works has announced its new division called ‘ccLearn’. This is to promote the use and reuse of freely copyable materials especially for education. The website says that ccLearn includes supplying of educational material to everyone irrespective of social, technical or legal barriers.

ccLearn will be in full operation by this fall. It is being supported by The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and is also being directed by the members of the Foundation’s Open Educational Resources Program. ccLearn is a significant step towards education. It will be working with educational sites and resources from around the world.

The website also describes the three terms; legal, social and technical barriers in access of education. Overcoming social barriers, the site aims to encourage literati’s, teachers, educationists and learners to contribute their bit and also use the available materials. ccLearn will also be providing the members with tools to assist them in reuse and remix of educational material. Also, they will be advocating the licensing of educational matter under interoperable terms, meaning thereby, that the license will allow the users to make useful modifications, remixing and redistribution of the material. However, I am sure the issue will face a few hurdles on its way but in the long run, it will be quite significant and bring a big change if used fairly.
