In its first ever acquisition, Facebook has purchased Parakey from Mozilla Firefox co-founders, Blake Ross and Joe Hewitt. The financial detail of the deal is not known as of now. Why does the acquisition assume significance for the social networking site?
Developed secretly in 2006, Parakey is a platform that bridges the gap between information on the web and the desktop enabling programmers and web companies to build more user-friendly applications for the online users.
Facebook is developing its Facebook Platform to empower companies and developers to develop applications for the Facebook website. At present, the social networking provides nearly 85 applications for the users. These applications can be added to users’ accounts.
In the backdrop this, the latest acquisition assumes greater significance for Facebook for developers.
