Facebook is planning to launch a new ad unit in a few weeks that it says will harness Facebook’s social networking dynamic.

The new unit called Sponsored Stories will appear within Facebook’s News Feed platform. It is the same News Feed that stirred up a controversy.

Mike Murphy, Chief Revenue Officer, Facebook says;

Up until now, most advertising on social network sites hasn’t leveraged social networking behavior,” he said. “This offers a viral opportunity that is unique for advertisers that is not disruptive.

Anyway, this new initiative may stir up more controversy because what seems to me is that it will be viral ads delivered through the feeds. It is so because when users click on these ads, the entire friend network will be alerted thus grabbing eyeballs.

Let’s see how this thing manages to evade potential controversies. In my opinion, the whole concept of News Feeds as it is in Facebook is a very bad idea.
