Comcast has just launched its entertainment portal called Fancast. As the websites put it, its aim is to make ‘the one place where you can find what to watch, where to watch, when to watch it - plus all the video, photos and facts you crave.’ However, the portal is right now available in its Beta version. The portal is open to public and provides you with a database that will give you details about everything and anything related to entertainment-be it movies, directors, video clips or your favorite TV shows.
However, as a registered user only you will be able to access and enjoy all the features of Fancast. You can also rate a site and tag your favorite sites. Also, when you register in as a user, you don’t have to answer a long list of questions (which you have to do at other websites) thus, making it shorter and simple. You also get a list of suggestions related to content that should be watched making it simpler for you. It also provides you with the list of TV programs whoever your cable service providers are. The video database also has a lot too offer. ‘Six degrees’ a fun feature in the portal, let you link with the other listings related to your listings. Gotcha? If not, you better register yourself with Fancast.
When there is good, there is bad too. Well, the worst part of the site is that they provide a tagging system which you cannot access. Also, the tags are unorganized and too broad. The website doesn’t have enough filters too but they provide you with the option, which is ironical indeed. The website is mostly flash and graphical, thus leaving you with slower access. Overall, Fancast can be rated as a useful service with some features to be improved. As soon as Comcast resolves the issues Fancast has, I am sure it would be a favorite among millions.
