Amidst the recent Viacom lawsuit, Google’s YouTube has announced to distribute away first YouTube Video Awards to recognize the best-user created videos of 2006. The six categories for the nominations are:
Most creative
Most inspirational
Best series
Best comedy
Musician of the year
Best commentary
Most adorable video ever
It was said that the nominees are compiled in a gallery at www.youtube.com/YTAwards but the page reads ‘This channel is not available‘ at the moment. Well, the nominee list includes celebrated Paul Robinett (”Renetto”), Peter Oakley (”Geriatric1927″), Barats and Bereta’s comedy, Lonelygirl15, and the pop band OK Go.
Anyway, the list of winners will be declared on March 25 and the selected sensations will get a trophy. In context to this announcement, Jamie Byrne, head of product marketing at YouTube commented:
We wanted to call out some of the most popular videos and let the users choose which ones deserve some additional recognition. We looked at the genres of content that were the most popular last year.
Now, let’s see whether YouTube carries forth its trend of announcing best-user created videos year after year or not.
