Gartner says that the technology that is making the Web 2.0 thingy happen, like AJAX, mashups, location-aware software and sensor mesh networking are among the key emerging techs that will have a significant impact on enterprise within this decade.
According to the research firm’s findings and analysis, Web 2.0 has been identifies as one of the major themes in what it calls - ‘emerging technologies hype cycle’ that analyses new technologies getting the limelight and predicts a pattern of hype/disillusionment/adoption for these technologies independently.
Technologies under the Web 2.0 umbrella pegged to a very significant impact on businesses are Asynchronous Javascript and XML or AJAX development techniques for enhancing the responsiveness and usability of Web applications, and the joining together of multiple online applications to create a new service or mashups as they are known. The Gartner study also expects these two technologies to reach full maturity in less than two years given the kind of attention these two technologies are getting, not to mention the amount of work done these days upon them.
In addition to this Gartner also predicted that location-aware applications that use GPS and mobile networks to pinpoint users would be adopted on a wide scale in the next two to five years.
