Researchers at Google have revealed that the company has initiated an effort to identify all web pages on the internet that could be malicious. They were forced to think of the same when a research promulgated the fact that one in 10 web pages examined by the company contains malicious code that can adversely affect the user’s computer.
For this, they studied 4.5 million pages thoroughly and found that around 450,000 enabled “drive-by downloads” that install spyware in the PCs without letting the user know anything about it. Moreover, around 70,000 pages were found to come with the harmful codes that could infect the users’ systems.
Drive-by downloads has become a widespread way to harm a computer or embezzle any sensitive information. Such downloads contain malicious codes that get installed by themselves on the user’s system when they visit some suspicious site. Drive-by-Downloads is far different and powerful than the ordinary spam and email attachments.
Interestingly, the researchers’ computer was itself hit with 50 different malwares by visiting a web page hosted on a hijacked server. Google already warns users ny displaying a message in form of “This site may harm your computer” when the users are about to visit any malevolent sites. The researchers have said that it’s not an easy task to find all the web-based infection vectors.
They are currenly mapping the malware threat. Let’s wait and watch what Google comes with in the near future to fight the malicious content that has clutched the whole internet.
