Google has decided to stop selling of TV shows on its own video site. The search king has started its rental video service in January 2006 with the selling of popular show ‘Survivor’. The service will be closed down very shortly, confirmed Google through an email written to the customers.
Google, which owned the popular video-sharing site YouTube last year for $1.6 billion, will no more offer download-to-own or download-to-rent programs from August 15, 2007. It means that the videos which have been rented or purchased from Google can not be viewed thereafter.
Google is not refunding the money the customer spent on videos, rather adding the amount in Google Checkout account. It is something disappointing for the customers.
It is an open secret that Google makes its 99 percent of revenue from online advertisements and mere one percent from content selling. Therefore, Google has decided to shut down its rental video service to fully focus on AdSense.
