Google will further update its web applications such as Gmail, Picasa, Google Docs and Spreadsheets with increased storage capabilities. However, you cannot get them free. Google is now charging money for the expanded online storage.
As per prescribed rates, the users need to pay $20 per year for 6 gigabytes of online storage, $75 per year for 25 gigabytes, $250 per year for 100 gigabytes of storage and $500 per year for 250 gigabytes of storage. At present, Gmail provides nearly 2.8GB of free storage and Picasa 1GB to the users.
The announcement came just a few hours after Microsoft rechristened its online storage service from Windows Live Folders to Windows Live SkyDrive. The Windows Live SkyDrive online storage service offers free 500 MB storage to the users in UK and India.
Although Google’s recent announcement is considered a step towards making Google application highly sophisticated in comparison to Microsoft and Yahoo, however the hidden agenda is only for money-making.

The charges seem to be reasonable . As Google is offering its flag-ship search engine absolutely FREE , it was just a matter of time that other services — particularly Storage — would be charged
