If Facebook is following footsteps of Apple’s iTunes, then Hi5 is following footsteps of FaceBook with the launch of their own development platform. Hi5 announced about the launch of own platform for social networking platforms at the CommunityNext conference.
One of the chief developers of the Hi5 website has confirmed that they are definitely trying to launch a platform.
The time-frame in launching the platform is 8 to 12 months for completion of the platform. The company is taking large amount time in developing a platform; this will give a huge time to Facebook in leading competition.
Hi5 has more than 35 million users, which is quite comparable with Facebook but most of Hi5 users are outside of the US. For Hi5 users are easy to image a new platform as they will feel that they are living in new community. Currently, Hi5 is offering primarily widgets from Slide and RockYou to allow users to add custom slide shows and special effects to their profiles.
