LiveJournal has announced that they will soon start offering sponsored communities with participation benefits for users. It will also have sponsored features by other companies.
The sponsored communities will actually be groups sponsored by advertisers who will offer group members a plethora of goodies like:
a. exclusive movie trailers,
b. behind-the-scenes footage,
c. travel advice,
d. tips and tricks,
e. special deals.
Besides the above, the sponsored features will be tech add-ons like SMSing service sponsored by Amp’dMobile.
The technical add-ons surely look a bit more exciting than the freebies the sponsored group members will enjoy. However, where all these will take LiveJournal is a different story altogether because so far, I have seen only negative feedback from users. SixApart at least is thinking of something to do with LiveJournal to make it up.
