malaysia-blog_48In an attempt to keep a tab on the anonymous postings that could harm homeland security, Malaysia has plans to make bloggers on local websites to register with the authorities. The Ministry of Communications said that the move could effectively control the flow of malicious content on the web.

Shaziman Abu Mansor cited that they have no problems with the blogging but they can’t accept the negative postings by anonymous bloggers. Well, roughly 50,000 websites are registered using the ‘.my’ suffix allowing anyone to host sites with nasty content.

The proposal has come into the light after two Malaysian bloggers, Jeff Ooi and Ahirudin Attan posted vilifying remarks in their blogs about the paper’s editors and executives of the New Straits Times newspaper.

Interestingly, Lim Kit Siang, parliamentary opposition leader and a blogger said:

Instead of coming up with ways to inhibit blogging, these ministers should be educated to start blogging themselves to invite a more interactive, communicative style of government.

Well, this is just a proposal at the moment but will certainly face negative feedback from the blogging community.
