The governments worldwide are getting weary of Internet and are putting Internet journalists in jail for what they deemed was an offending article.
‘The Internet Journalists are second in line to the Print Journalists‘; these figures were revealed by the Committee to protect Journalists. There are 49 of them languishing in jail for using their right of freedom of expression.
China is leading the charge against the net (Chinese law makers are purposing that internet users should provide real names and ID card numbers) and has maximum number of 31 journos in jail out of them 19 are Internet journalists Cuba came second.
The director of international programs at Columbia University Joshua Friedman says,
“I refer to the freedom of the press as the canary in the coal mine. It’s a barometer of the insecurity of the people running these governments. One of the things that makes them insecure these days is the power of the Internet.”
The states with dictator ship are mostly the ones who are the most hostile towards this new medium of news and are now doing everything possible to control the net.
Among the note able journalists jailed are Iranian journalist Mojtaba Saminejad (2years), U.S. video blogger Joshua Wolf and China’s Shi Tao (10years) all of them upheld the freedom of expression and were jailed.
