Internet baddies have found a new way of playing havoc with your favorite social networking site MySpace. A serious worm that exploits the Javascript code of the Apple QuickTime player is tempting the users into a phishing trap. The worm urges the MySpace users to click on the fake links that are redirected to the phishing (pornographic) sites contaminated with Zango adware, FaceTime etc. Once the users is caught in the trap when they view the malevolent embedded QuickTime video, the links are doctored and the user downloads a malicious embedded Quicktime video.
Well, MySpace has purportedly asked Apple to fix the Javascript susceptibility in QuickTime.
On the other hand, readdressing the complaints about sexual marauders and other threats to the teens, MySpace has announced to develop technologies to block convicted sex offenders. MySpace has joined hands with Sentinel Tech Holding Corp. to introduce a database containing the names and physical descriptions of convicted sex offenders in the U.S. within 30 days. The technology to be used in this process is dubbed “Sentinel Safe”. Any profile that will match the database will be deleted thereafter.
But, I don’t think that the convicted sex offenders are too bamboozles to use their real names while signing up to the MySpace community.
