MySpace has now put another step forth to address the issue of copyright management. They have launched new copyright protection software dubbed Take Down Stay Down. The software will prevent users from re-posting video clips that have been removed from the website at copyright-holders’ request. It means that the once-removed clips won’t be posted twice. Their press release says:

When a content owner informs MySpace that a user has improperly posted its content onto MySpace Videos, not only is the video promptly removed by MySpace, but MySpace also creates a digital fingerprint of the video content and adds it to its copyright filter, which is based on industry-leading Audible Magic technology.

Obviously, it will not appeal to the youngsters but if we take a look at the current scenario of the video-sharing sites, this move by MySpace will put Google’s YouTube in trouble. It will be interesting to se whether this site-wide DRM will help increase the popularity of MySpace or has an adverse effect.
