For the first time, MySpace Video has beaten YouTube over the most preferred service for video sharing by MySpace users. In September, YouTube was ahead of MySpace Video by 44.07% to 38.98%. However, last month it was a different story altogether. The lead of YouTube over MySpace Videos in MySpace pages was over 5% in September. In October, MySpace video not only caught up with YouTube, but also surged pass it.
Between September and October, video-embeds in MySpace grew by about 57%. In that growth, only MySpace Video’s share was a whopping 93.27%. The October stats now look like this:
• MySpace Videos grew by 93.27% and holds 47.40% of the total number of embeds.
• YouTube grew by 44.25% and holds 40.01% of the total video embeds in MySpace.
• Others grew by 10.12% and collectively hold about 12.59% of the overall embeds.
Since MySpace has a very high percentage of YouTube video embeds, losing out on popularity there means a lot of market loss for YouTube. In fact, MySpace is a major factor that contributed to the YouTube popularity. It would hurt YouTube to play catch-up with MySpace video.
