Press Complaints Commission in UK has stated that the blogs and other websites should be roofed by a voluntary code of practice like the newspapers. Technorati recently conducted a survey revealing that 100,000 new blogs are created everyday. Though complaints about those online media sites can be made that have already subscribed to PCC but there are no professional standards or means of redress for other remaining sites.

Director of the Press Complaints Commission, Tim Toulmin revealed that he opposed government regulation of the internet, saying it should be a place “in which views bloom”. Since Press Complaints Commission has a code for newspaper and magazines in UK according to which the part of public that is not contended with the coverage can register a complaint with the commission, it wants some sort of voluntary code applied to the internet sites too.

Tim Toulmin further said:

The flow of information should not be regulated by any government. If you want to see how the newspaper industry would look like if it was unchecked, then look at the internet.

Well, Press Complaints Commission wants to see the internet sites the way newspapers are. What does that mean? The users won’t be able to express their views freely as they used to do. Newspapers are just a one-way communication. What will be the structure of this voluntary code for blogs and internet sites? I think everyone linked to the online media will be eager to know that.
