Well, we missed out on this one released on 7th of this month. The human rights group Reporters Sans Frontieres or Reporters Without Borders has released its annual list of 13 countries named ‘Enemies of the Internet’.
The list, which is released every year had a slight policy change this time. It has organized for the first time an online protest to the list. A spokesman for RSF said;
We wanted to mobilise net users so that when we lobby certain countries we can say that the concerns are not just ours but those of thousands of internet users around the world.
For the first time, Egypt has made it to the list while some previously blacklisted countries made exits. They are Nepal, Libya and the Maldives.
This year, the group focused particularly on the freedom of bloggers and the attitude of the governments towards their bloggers. For example, Egypt made it to the list because of its attitude towards bloggers of that country.
The list of the countries is as follows:
- Belarus
- Burma
- China
- Cuba
- Egypt
- Iran
- North Korea
- Saudi Arabia
- Syria
- Tunisia
- Turkmenistan
- Uzbekistan
- Vietnam
The RSF website is also inviting visitors to leave a voice message for Yahoo! co-founder Jerry Yang for expressing their views on Yahoo!’s involvement in China.
A few days back Microsoft’s Fred Tipson hinted in reviewing the firm’s policy in undemocratic regimes.
