I am surprised to find a few blogs favoring the editing of comments by online communities. Well, I don’t find any logical reason to allow that. Comments are a straight-forward likeness of a commentator’s opinion. So, it should be the prime duty of the commentator to read his/her comment thoroughly before posting it since that is going to reflect his personality.
Even some suggest for comment preview, which too doesn’t make any sense. In case, someone has made a major error which distorts what he/she really wanted to convey, he/she can clarify in another comment as follow-up.
Deleting a comment is a poor form similar to deleting a post. If a commentator has made a mistake while commenting, I think the best way for that fellow is to post another comment, own up your mistake, express regret, and leave the mistake as it is. I feel that is very widely accepted in all the social communities and that will moreover reflect the civilized personality of the commentator.
What do you have to say about it?

Comments
We don’t allow comment editing at Outdoorzy.com. Like Naveen, we feel that a comment is a representation of a members thoughts and feelings. If the person being commented about is offended or uneasy about the comment in any way they can always decline. We require each comment to be moderated (accepted/declined) which gives the profile owner the power to reject anything they don’t like.
As for mistakes and poor grammar, this is a fact of the web 2.0/social networking world. Anyone working within that world should understand that those things happen.
Good post Naveen.
