Skype providing high quality video

If you are one of those who spend a substantial part of the year on cruises, you may be missing out on a lot of quality family and friends time. You don’t get to see the faces of your folks, and when you finally get through on the ship’s phone, the voice quality is low, and there is of course, no video. Enter Skype (and a wireless card). This is some amazing device and software. It provides awesome video quality to you, on your laptop, for free. All you need is to install the Skype phone software. It looks just like any other chat interface, except that it offers a variety of other features like PC-to—Phone calling, or even phone to phone calling via voice over internet if you are using a Skype enabled phone. What’s latest is that Skype has also started offering extremely high quality video – something you could earlier get only with premier accounts – for free. So all you need is a wireless internet card that will let you access the internet either via the satellite or through the ship’s own WAN. You will need it to be pretty fast, at least a couple MBs per second, to get seamless video quality, but if you do have it, voice chatting with your wife, kids, family and friends is a breeze. You can get one of the special headphones from Skype, and good quality webcam, set yourself on a nice deck chair and get going on voice chat.
