According to Wall Street Journal, the No. 2 telecommunications company in US Verizon Communications is holding advanced talks with YouTube to bring YouTube’s content to mobile phones and television sets.
Amongst the things discussed, Verizon Wireless customers would be able to view some YouTube hosted content on their mobiles through Verizon’s V Cast service. It would also offer YouTube videos as an on-demand feature of a TV service it plans to launch all over the country soon.
The ramification could well be that Verizon would get a marketing advantage over its rivals in mobile and cable playgrounds and will boost Verizon’s efforts in IP and entertainment services.
Now, that apart, it is still sometime to go for YouTube to be able to deliver user-generated content in mobiles. As we have reported before, this could well be in the next fourteen months. If Verizon clinches an exclusive deal like this, it would prove to be a great scoop for the telecom company.
