It seems that Wal-Mart is finally warming up to the idea of offering movie downloads and it is doing to provide exactly that in the coming months. A few days back I wrote in Hello Company on the news that it is aggressively trying to thwart Apple’s plans to sign up deals with studios. In that post I wondered how long can Wal-Mart keep Apple at bay in the movie business?

Now, realizing the long term effects that movie downloads will have on its huge DVD business where Wal-Mart sells half of the DVDs bought in America, it has started thinking like Apple. Wal-Mart discontinued its movie rental business last spring and entered into a deal with Netflix to provide rentals to Wal-Mart customers and promote DVD purchase from the retail giant.

Anyway, according to CNN Money the downloads may come in part through in-store kiosks. Therefore, this isn’t exactly going to be the model that AOL, iTunes and Amazon are trying to follow.
