Online newspapers are in full swing these days. A recent research conducted by an Internet media and market research company named Nielsen//NetRatings has revealed that the web traffic to the pages of the top 10 online newspapers grew 210 percent year in the past year. On the whole, the unique audience growth was found to be 9% year over year. For example, unique audience to blog pages accounted for an increase of 9% from the year 2005 to 2006.
Nielsen//NetRatings showed that the blog pages of the top 10 online newspapers drew around 3.8 million unique visitors last month that is around three times more than December 2005’s 1.2 million.
Here are the few of the most well-liked online newspaper blogs and links to their pages with estimated December audiences included.
•USATODAY.com blogs, 1.239 million
•The New York Times’ blogs, 1.173 million
•SFGate blogs, 515,000
•Washingtonpost.com blogs, 433,000,
•Boston.com blogs, 388,000.
Carolyn Creekmore, senior director of media analytics, Nielsen//NetRatings said:
As Web 2.0 becomes a predominant online consumer model, traditional publishers are adopting interactive forums like blogs. It makes perfect sense for online newspapers, where responding to a blog posting is like writing an instant letter to the editor.
All that is making online newspapers such a big hit is the active two-way communication that the traditional media fails to do.
