Wikipedia is these days prone to an immense predicament because a student from Kentucky (aged around 20) pretended to be a professor of religious studies and noticeably than 20,000 amendments to contentious topics on the online info bank.
By using an alias ‘Essjay”, the sham professor has become one of Wikipedia’s most fertile editors. Moreover, he had already been named in the New Yorker, which accepted his claims as they were true.
His identity has been now wiuncovered as Ryan Jordan, a guy aged 24 years who had made a completely bogus identity, and claimed to be a tenured professor at a private university.
Well, the 5.3 million articles on the site are open to alteration but around 75,000 people are the active participants. Some people have even shielded Jordan while others have raised their eyebrows.
Wikipedia’s founder, Jimmy Wales has asked ‘Essjay’ to give up his position, and now would like the senior editors to reveal their identities and prove their credentials. Well, Essjay is no longer active now. Wales further said:
I have an MA in finance. I could fax a copy of the degree to the office.
Joprdan has, in his final posting, said that he wants the others to refocus their energy to make Wikipedia far better.
