Yahoo! is going to work with seven newspaper groups that include 176 regional newspapers. These newspapers would start using Yahoo! HotJobs classified job site from December.

The deal is much broader than that though. Both Yahoo! and the consortium of the seven groups would share content, ads and technology.

This is seen as a signal that traditional newspapers are increasing getting edgy over spiraling newsprint sales because of the invasion of the online news content providers as we reported earlier.

Talking to AP, Leon Levitt, VP for digital media at Cox Newspapers said;

Most local newspapers have done a pretty good job of generating local revenue into their sites. It’s so much harder to generate national revenue because a lot of advertisers don’t want to deal with 100 different newspapers. This will make it simple.

Yes indeed. As the deal boosts Yahoo!’s regional reach, it also provides the papers with national reach for their local ads and content. So it is widely seen as a win-win situation for both the parties. Also, it appears to me that Yahoo! is finally waking up to the Google threat here in this field.
