In an effort to rule the web and attract more users, Yahoo would be seeing two major changes. As per a recent announcement, Yahoo Mail will witness two new additions: the new service that will make text messaging available on your mobile phones and the amalgamation of Yahoo Messenger and Windows Live Messenger, in a bid to make the service more convenient. Yahoo mail also plans to go global and upgrade from its beta version. However, the bad news is that the free text messaging will be available in US, Canada, India and the Philippines.
Another new feature that will be seen in Yahoo Mail would be the integration of a lot of shortcuts. Locating them is also easy as they will be underlined with blue dots. The new text messaging that Yahoo is coming out with, will let you exchange IM’s and also convert emails into text messages or IM’s in a wink.

Hate to point this but this blog entry is full of factual errors. Take this - As per a recent announcement, Yahoo Mail will witness two new additions: the new service that will make text messaging available on your mobile phones - well,I have always had text messaging on my phone and I am sure your phone does too! What is new and what the writer did not explain is that you can send a text message from Yahoo messenger to any mobile.
Secondly, what is bad news about the free text messaging service being available in US, Canada, India and the Philippines as has been written? The writer has omitted a crucial word : only or limited that would make the sentence sound better.
And the most glaring error:
Last but not the least; Yahoo is also set to introduce ‘unlimited storage’ from May.
Which May is the writer referring to? The reader would think that Yahoo is introducing unlimited storage from May next year but what really happened is that Yahoo made the announcement in March this year that it would offer unlimited storage and started rolling out the service from May this year!!! A vast difference from saying ”it is also set to”!!
well smitha...
here are a few points for u to consider,,,,
frstly...our readers are intellectual engh to understand...the points that u ahve marked out and genuinely i dnt feel that it requires that much explanantion...
I hope u have read that essay which says that making ur readers feel like they dnt knw anythin or too much explanations isn’t good for a professional writer,...i will make sure to find it on web and post u the link...:)
regardin ur comment on the sentence..’addition of text messaging to mobile phones’ make sure u check out...http://mashable.com/2007/08/26/yahoo-mail-to-incorporate-text-messaging/
that will let u know that my writing standards are almost as gud as any other..yes maybe u have better then us...
i am sure u’ll be knowing that blogging somwhere also means givin ur personal view...if i have said that the launch that is limited is a bad news dats my personal way of seeing it...if u have some better wrds to use for it,..thats ur style..i’ll remain stuck to my style and that wud only be better...
Also, smitha its rite to pin point errors in one’s blog but it is not acceptable to comment on one’s writting style...coz dats highly unprofessional....
true that the last line dat quotes unlimited storag from may has been put it in a wrong sense and i’ll make sure that the line is altered....anyways thanx for pointin out that...
take care..
Thanks for getting back. I would like to clarify that I said as is evident in my earlier comment that there is a crucial word ”limited” or ”only” that is missing in your blog entry. Without that the sentence makes no sense. See for yourself:
However, the bad news is that the free text messaging will be available in US, Canada, India and the Philippines.
I am sure that the author’s opinion is what everyone comes here to read; I had no issues with that, and nor have I commented on the writer’s writing style - I have said that to me as a reader, there were certain things that did not make sense. I have not even compared the author’s blog entry to the one in Mashables - it’s the author who has done so!
The biggest assumption anyone can make is in thinking the readers will understand -that goes against any basic principles of journalism. And yet again, there might be a mistake in assuming the reader knows everything. My point is the way the line about text messaging was written, there was no explanation on what Yahoo Mail intends to do with text messaging. There was no personal attack on the author’s writing style and there was certainly no need for you to retort with the same.
Also, I am not posting here as a writer - I have no great claims to being one - I commented purely as a reader and any author who does not respect the reader’s comments is not worthy of being called so.
Hello Khushi,
As a reader of the article I could not help noticing the comment from Smitha from Bangalore and your reply to it. I have to say that the facts that Smitha pointed out here are very much to be taken into account and not to be dismissed. As a writer myself, I can see the reason why she has pointed out some of the glaring errors that you have made. It is not so much a comment on your writing style as much as the way you put things and the way of using certain words. You can definitely say that the launch is ”bad news” but like Smitha said it is crucial that you use the word ”limited” for it to qualify as bad news.
Secondly, never equate intelligence of the reader to understanding of certain facts. Even a highly intelligent and informed reader will get confused when you refer to a service as ”beginning from May.” As Smitha said we don’t know which May.
Thirdly, saying that ”text messaging is available” will definitely baffle any reader as it has definitely been available from the time mobile phones entered India. One has to be specific. Your article is about Yahoo! introducing new features hence you would have to mention that now it is possible to send text messages from Yahoo! messenger which is indeed unique.
Also, I would suggest to please take a look at the errors in your own response which you written to Smitha. There are endless spelling mistakes and grammatical errors. A true writer would never write it that way...
well...
dear...i have admitted what i guess is wrong in the article...and even have said that i’ll bring the mistake to the editors notice asap...
secondly...about my spellin mistakes and grammatical errors in the reply to Smitha...plz can u take some time out to c my otehr replies too...coz genuinely i have this habit of using ’U’ instead of writtin you...u can say that i use the text message style...in here toooo....
and i hope at least u shudn’t have a problem wth that...
i dunno know..but ur replies show that u r takin things too personally..i guess as u have a rite too comment on the article..i do have the same to reply back ...in terms of what i feel...
quoth unquoth.....any author who does not respect the reader’s comments is not worthy of being called so....u r being too personal and such biased view isn’t acceptable...
To each one their own. Over and out.
a free messng means you save time in hinting a reply..
i have a beta accnt but i hardly use the great feature it has to go through the mail by just tapping the emails that show in the bottom half of page in a click only..and similarly when we can reply without turning page ’its a blessing and its yahooooo!
