I have heard this talk before that Yahoo! will offer its highly Yahoo! Messenger service inside its highly popular email service. Google clubbed its IM Google Talk with Gmail earlier this year. Yahoo! executive Brad Garlinghouse demonstrated the new integrated Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Messenger in the 3rd Annual Web 2.0 Conference in San Francisco.
With over 250 million active users, Yahoo! Mail dwarfs Gmail, which is approximately one-tenth of its size. This new Yahoo! Mail with Yahoo! Messenger will give a big fillip to Yahoo! who is actively marketing its free email service through various media. Also, this will make it absolutely seamless for Yahoo! users to do away with downloading and installing software.
In addition to clubbing its Yahoo! Messenger with its email, Yahoo! is also working upon how to integrate the VoIP features that it offers with the Yahoo! Messenger program in Yahoo! Mail. Once that happens, Yahoo! can hope to consolidate its position at the top with the rivals having some catching up to do.
