YouTube founder Chad Hurley told an audience in OgivlyOne Digital Media Summit in New York that YouTube hopes that by end of 2007 YouTube can deliver user-generated short video clips to mobile devices. However, he also said that it is finding it difficult to come up with a solution on how to monetize the service in mobiles because there are no examples yet to follow.
After Google acquired YouTube and now since Gmail is now available in mobile and soon we can expect a few Google services to go mobile too. I have little doubts in my mind that this is not going to happen sooner than expected.
Coming back to finding a solution to monetize Web 2.0 services to mobile, I guess with Yahoo! concentrating so hard on mobile devices in Asia, it might come up with a solution first for the other business to emulate.
