Finally we have some big news about YouTube. The news is that YouTube and Warner Music Group Corp. today will announce a deal that will put thousands of Warner music videos on YouTube and allow user-created videos to legally use Warner owned music.

Under the deal YouTube’s technology will automatically detect copyrighted music is used in videos and give Warner the right to accept or reject them and will calculate the royalty fees that Warner should get.

No details regarding the financial details have been disclosed. It may be that YouTube will give Warner a cut on the ad revenues that it earns or it is even possible that users would be charged a fee for putting Warner-owned music in their videos.

You may recall that a few days back, we carried out a report on how the CEO of Universal Music lambasted YouTube and MySpace for violating copyright laws. They (Universal and YouTube) had been holding talks over this for sometime now trying to negotiate a deal. However, things between them seem to have reached a low point and there might be legal battles between Universal and YouTube. However, if YouTube can ink a few similar deals with major music cos, the effect would be spectacular in the user-generated content.
